Vangažu town
In 1955, geologists found good deposits of gravel – 17 million m3 within a 7,7 m thick layer, and deposits of sand, where later a quarry formed up.These deposits determined selection of location of the reinforced concrete plant.The year 1957 is considered to be the starting point of the history of the town.Together with the plant, residential houses were built.A village developed and later grew into the town of Vangaži.We know from the history that Vangaži was a place populated by the Livs.In Latvian it means: vang – a meadow around a stream; aži – a location. Vangaži is little town. It lies 30 kilometres from Riga, the capital of Latvia. The population - 4200. Town area - 5,1 km2.
Since November 14, 1991 Vangaži is confered on the status of town.
164 companies are registred in Vangaži city, over 45 are located in industrial zone. They deal with the gravel extraction, aerated concrete, reinforced concrete, metal, insulated heating pipes, paving, knitted production as well as wood, metal and plastic window production.
 In Vangaži you can find: secondary school, kindergarten "Jancis", school for new mothers, industrial school, dispensary, post office, many stores, school of music and art, recreation centre, nongovernmental organization, bank office, police force, library, Lutheran church, newspaper "Vangažu Vēstis", louse. |
